This homemade instant hot chocolate mix is sure to hit the spot. Of course, you could just decide to move somewhere warm instead of drinking it.

Homemade Instant Hot Chocolate Mix

I’m freezing my butt off in Massachusetts. We had a frozen pipe, a car break down and kids out of school. Wow! How to deal with what winter has in store for us? Coffee and hot chocolate! (I hate tea).

Here are two of my favorite recipes: Vegan Hot Chocolate And DIY Peppermint Mocha. They should make you smile.

This instant hot chocolate mix was born out of wanting something in case we ran out of milk. Plus, I love everything INSTANT. What I don’t like are the mixtures packaged in small sachets. First, they are messy. Second, they are bad for the environment. Finally, they don’t really taste like hot chocolate.

I thought it would be fun to make my own and customize it to have MORE chocolate and LESS sugar.

That was the weather outside the day I decided to do this. My kids came home from school and were excited to be my official tasters.

I went out in this weather to walk my dog because I’m not cruel enough to send my kids outside. My outfit was so ridiculous that I hoped none of my neighbors would notice me. They would recognize my dog because he only had his usual old hair.

I put on ski pants, a ski jacket, goggles, ski gloves and a bobble hat. I looked like I was going on the next Apollo mission. The dog didn’t want to come home because he seemed to like 40 mile per hour wind gusts and getting hit by snow.

I was glad that once I got inside, I made this INSTANT mix because I needed it. The dog was sitting by the door waiting for me to come out (not going to happen).

This recipe is really simple but there is a catch. Powdered milk is a bit expensive. This tastes much better than the mixes in the packet, so I think it’s worth it.

Feel free to mix in some mini marshmallows or a little cayenne pepper (or both) to customize it to your liking.
