Hello friends! How are you doing? Hope you enjoy the week! I meet up with friends, take calls from clients and take a yoga class.

For today, I wanted to talk about a workout format that has stood the test of time. It’s something I’ve loved for many years and I always come back to it as a staple in my routine:

I LOVE barre workouts because they remind me of my old dancing days, they are incredibly challenging, but easier on the joints. The impact is minimal and I feel like no matter what, I always get a good workout. There are many great online barre options, which is why I wanted to share five of my top five if you want to take barre classes at home instead of in a studio. This is a great option for my perimenopausal or menopausal friends who are used to HIIT workouts, but want something low impact while still being a great workout.

5 Online Barre Classes to Try

Pure Bar

Pure Bar Classes are designed to target specific muscle groups using small isometric movements. By isolating and working these muscles to the point of fatigue, you can achieve a long, lean physique while improving your flexibility, posture, and overall body alignment. It’s a fun and challenging full body workout.

One of the things I love most about Pure Barre is how inclusive it is. Whether you’re a seasoned fitness enthusiast or a beginner, Pure Barre offers modifications and variations to support where you are in your fitness journey. The supportive and encouraging environment makes it a welcoming space for all fitness levels and ages.

Why I love Pure Barre:

I feel like these classes are more music focused and seem like the more *classic* barre exercises to me. It includes a mix of pulses, isometric holds, and full-body moves, in addition to main burners, juicy stretches, and challenging sets. With a variety of class formats, including Classic, Empower, and Reform, you can mix it up and keep your workouts fresh and exciting.

Britsbarre

I recently discovered these workouts and I fell in love with them. These are classic barre workouts with solid form cues, functional flows, and an awesome burn. Brit Shimansky is a former professional ballerina turned master barre instructor who understands what it means to juggle mom life while making fitness a priority. After spending years teaching and training in New York, Brit became a mom in 2020 and found that spending time in the studio just wasn’t working anymore. This personal turning point inspired her to launch the virtual studio Britsbarre: a space built by a mom for moms, where movement meets real life. She has created short, rhythm-focused barre and strength classes that are extremely effective and don’t require a lot of time.

In these coursesYou’ll experience traditional barre work: low-impact, high-repetition sequences designed to build muscle mass, increase endurance, and revitalize your energy, even on busy days. Brit is also a certified pre and postnatal trainer, so you can expect lots of great instruction and modification options. The workouts are completely on-demand, most lasting less than 30 minutes, making them perfect for busy moms who need something effective, flexible and engaging. Each class includes instructions focused on alignment, modifications (including pre/postnatal), and options that you can complete without equipment or in a small space. Equipment for these classes includes a mat, band loop, Pilates ball, and dumbbells. Click here to try! All subscriptions include a 7-day free trial.

Sculpture Society

Ok, in all honesty, it’s not a traditional barbell, but the strength and sculpting workouts are very barrel. I highly recommend giving it a try if you like barre classes!

Sculpt Society was created by celebrity trainer Megan Roup, and this dynamic fitness method combines dance cardio, sculpting exercises, and targeted workouts to help you achieve your fitness goals and unlock your inner confidence. Sculpt Society is about finding joy in movement and embracing your body’s natural rhythm. With high-energy cardio dance routines, you’ll increase your heart rate, burn calories, and improve your cardiovascular fitness. But it’s not just about cardio: Sculpt Society takes it a step further with sculpting exercises with light weights that target and tone specific muscle groups, helping you improve your overall strength and endurance.

Sculpt Society incorporates a variety of exercises and equipment to keep your workouts exciting and effective. From resistance bands and hand weights to sliders and ankle weights, you’ll experience a diverse range of movements that will challenge your muscles in new ways. The workouts are designed to activate your entire body, helping you build strength, improve flexibility, and improve your overall athleticism.

Why I love Sculpt Society:

I really like the workout design and vibe of Megan Roup. She’s encouraging and funny, but doesn’t try too hard to make you laugh. Has no silly catchphrases and just seems like a real person. It’s very refreshing in a world of over-the-top fitness instructors, and the classes are all extremely well done. I’m having fun, I’m sweating and I feel challenged.

Pricing: They offer a free trial. You can also use my code GINA25 on this link for 25% off your first month. After that, it’s $179.99/year or $19.99 (what I currently pay for my subscription).

Coach Kel’s workouts

I’ve found Coach Kel’s YouTube years ago and I love his workouts. They’re a little more ballerina, which I love, and I also love her low-key coaching approach. She has a ton of workouts on her channel and the best part is, they’re free. She is truly an excellent bar instructor. I wish I could have added more information here, but I struggled to find out more about Coach Kel and her background, even though she is active on social media. The good news is that you can check out his workouts for free and see how you like them!

Price: Free! She also has a on-demand platform that you can consult here for $19.99/month.

Magnificent ballet

Flashback to the time when I have to take an in-person class! I was shocked by the uniqueness and effectiveness of this format. All you need is a yoga mat to get started.

Honorable mention:

bar3,it’s about finding balance in all aspects of your life. With a focus on functional movements, workouts aim to improve strength, flexibility and stability, while supporting your mental well-being. It’s not just about the physical aspect; it’s about connecting with your body and taking a mindful approach to fitness.

Barre3 classes are a mix of isometric exercises, functional movements and dynamic stretching. Using accessories such as gliders, weights and balls add variety and intensity to workouts, keeping you engaged and constantly challenged.

Why I like bare3:

I love the mindfulness aspect of barre3. Emphasis is placed on the mind-body connection, as a series of breaths begins and ends each class. I added this as an honorable mention because I’m not as into these workouts as I used to be. I feel like there are more dynamic and enjoyable options, which I’ve shared above.

Price: 14 day trial trial. $19.99/month billed annually and $29.99/month billed monthly.
